Styling short hair with accessories part 1

I am always looking for new ways to style my short hair and recently I’ve noticed I don’t seem to be able to scroll anywhere without seeing very decorative hair clips. It is quite possibly a sign that this trend is about to die, I love being late to a party. I’m not going to lie, a lot of these styles do make me cringe, and a lot remind me so much of when I was a kid.

ASOS DESIGN pack of 2 hair clips in snap shape in gold tone

These may be the safest hair clips out the whole haul. That is potentially code for most boring, but I’ll leave that judgement up to you. I don’t hate these. Nice and grippy without dragging your roots and they don’t look as cartoony as I had expected.

ASOS DESIGN pack of 2 hair clips in crystal and pearl embellished tortoiseshell

I couldn’t resist these. So much going on. They are so heavy and you shake you’re head ever so slightly, they start falling. For short hair, I really don’t think they work. If you have thick, curly, maybe darker hair they could potentially work. Even that could be a stretch. What does anyone else think?

Boohoo boss hair slide in diamante

Clearly, every boss lady needs to advertise this in their hair. Dress for the job you want, isn’t that the saying? I really don’t think this is the way to be a boss. I could be wrong, but I can’t imagine being taken seriously turning up anywhere looking like this.

Glamorous Exclusive faux mother of pearl hair clip

I will admit I had high hopes for this one. I think all it does for me is bring out the brassiness of my blonde. It’s also slightly too long with the wrong amount of grip for short hair.

ASOS DESIGN pack of 3 hair clips in crystal criss cross design in gold tone

XXX means it’s for adults, right? Or maybe not. So much shiny and so many little hair ripped out. I really don’t know when these would ever look (or feel) good.

Glamorous Exclusive spellout beaded hair clips 3 pack

These were definitely not designed for nearly 30 year olds. Bracelets and I think maybe necklaces in this style were a huge thing when I was about 13. I don’t think this is an opportunity for me to attempt some kind of 13 going on 30 thing. Thirty, flirting and thriving does not begin with ‘bitchin’ in your hair. Also, not to be too much of an old lady, but – ‘bitchin’ ‘love*me’ ‘babygirl’. Seriously? Our young girls deserve better hair crap than this.

ASOS DESIGN pack of 3 hair clips in more more more slogan in silver tone

Very similar to the last hair clips. I’m not a fan. Partly because they really aren’t that functional as actual hair clips (so much hair grabbing), partly because what kind of message do they send? I’m assuming they are designed with young women in mind and while I’m all up for making yourself feel good through clothes and make up, is ‘More More More’ really the message? Maybe I’m overthinking hair accessories.

Liars & Lovers Exclusive mini rhinestone butterfly clips

I couldn’t resist these at all. I vividly remember being at primary school and fashioning myself a very intricate bun situation that was surrounded by butterfly clips. I was so proud of myself, and if selfies were a thing in the early 90s, I would be showing off that creation. It could be the nostalgia, but I can’t help thinking these are still cute as anything. Inflation has definitely taken it’s toll though, these were £8 for 5. That is ridiculous. If they cost anywhere near that back in the day, my mum would not have entertained them in the slightest.

I think it is safe to say I am just too old for big hair accessories. Or too boring. Either way fancy hair clips are not the forward for me. Maybe head bands could be the way…

Stay tuned!

Much love!
