Lauren Messiah Love Your Body Challenge - day 7 FLATTER YOURSELF

The Lauren Messiah Love Your Body Challenge day seven is all about finding that outfit (or outfits) that make you look amazing.

For this challenge I thought I’d take a step down memory lane to see what flashbacks Facebook had to offer.

This is going way back to 2010 when my sister got married in Vegas. This polka dot playsuit was a cheapy from either Asda or Matalan and I wasn’t too sure about it at first but I honestly wish I still had it. I think the halter straps, ruched bust, fitted waist and wide leg really work well for my shape.

2016. My friend was getting married, I was going solo and spent so long trying to find a dress but couldn’t find anything that felt right then it came to me, why not a suit? This was a nearly impossible task until I came across this one on ASOS. I felt incredible and got so many compliments, plus a lot of “you’re so brave” I don’t think it was brave (it was just a suit not saving children from a burning building). Calling someone brave for wearing an outfit always seems like a backhanded compliment to me, it seems to have the connotation that you’re doing something you maybe shouldn’t. Anyway, this is figure hugging but not skin tight and I also kind of love a shoulder pad after spending years of hating my naturally broad shoulders.

2017. This is going back to when I first started really feeling sassy and experimenting with my style. I felt absolutely amazing this night. I’d just had my hair cut short and I had a whole new sense of confidence and the feeling that I could conquer the world. I love this silhouette, cinched waist and showing a bit of skin but not too much. Looking back on this outfit makes me think I’ve already lost a bit of this confidence and ambition to create outfits that truly reflect me. That’s something to work on.

2018. A night with my uni babes where we had an unwritten rule of jeans, black boots and a fancy top. It’s quite the opposite silhouette than the cinched waist and floaty fabric, but a good pair of jeans can change everything. Plus, can you ever look awful when you’re surrounded by some of your best girls?

Turns out a bit a vanity helps your future self. My photography has come on a lot in the past 12 years, especially with the focus on outfits. For memories sake, there are a few special garments I really wish I had better photos of, there’s a dress in particular that I’m trying to track down (I’ll let you know if I find them). It’s also really helpful to see how certain shapes work well even with a little fluctuation, a cinched waist is a good to go apparently. This is a look I abandoned a couple of years ago, but I think it needs to make a comeback.

Stay tuned!

Much love!
